Char Dham Yatra Complete Travel Guide & Itinerary

The Char Dham Yatra refers to the pilgrimage to the four sacred sites in Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. It is believed that undertaking this journey washes away one’s sins and liberates the soul from the cycle of birth and death (Moksha). Every year, millions of devotees visit Uttarakhand to seek the blessings of the Almighty. Below is a complete guide and itinerary to make your spiritual journey convenient and memorable.

1. Char Dham Yatra: Temple Guide & Key Highlights

Each Dham has its own unique significance and history. Here are the complete details:

  • Yamunotri Dham: This is the source of the Yamuna River. To reach here, pilgrims must undertake a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti.
    • Darshan Timings: 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Aarti Time: 6:30 PM).
    • Best Time to Visit: May-June and September-October.
  • Gangotri Dham: This is the origin of the holy River Ganga. It is the most easily accessible among the four Dhams, requiring no major trekking.
    • Darshan Timings: 6:15 AM to 9:00 PM (Aarti Time: 7:00 PM).
  • Kedarnath Dham: Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites. Reaching Kedarnath involves a challenging 18 km trek from Gaurikund. Pilgrims can also use Ponies, Palanquins (Palkis), or Helicopter services.
    • Darshan Timings: 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
    • Important: Medical certificates and registration are mandatory for Kedarnath due to the high altitude.
  • Badrinath Dham: Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is situated along the banks of the Alaknanda River.
    • Darshan Timings: 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM (Morning) and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM (Evening).
